Psychotherapy provides the opportunity to get to know yourself deeply, with the safe and non-judgmental support of a skilled and compassionate psychotherapist. It is truly a collaborative process where together, we will come to understand your experiences within your unique historical and current context.

Psychotherapy is transformative for a wide range of emotional, mental, and relational difficulties. Through the process of regular psychotherapy sessions, perception shifts and alternatives naturally arise to help you move beyond unhelpful patterns and habits and into greater freedom and lasting change.

I completed the training within the Masters of Science in Medicine (Psychotherapy) at the University of Sydney. The specific style of psychotherapy that I practice is the Conversational Model. It is a contemporary model of psychodynamic psychotherapy which is focused on nurturing  self-development and aliveness. The Conversational Model is also excellent for healing from trauma, grief, and other painful experiences. It is a warm, empathic, relational model of long or short-term psychotherapy, which prioritises the uniqueness and value of each individual. Through a series of therapeutic conversations, where there is a focus on feelings, emotions, reflective awareness and relationships, over time people experience improvements in mood and overall wellbeing.

The efficacy of the Conversational Model has been rigorously evaluated, and it has been found to be highly effective for anxiety, depression, trauma and many other types of emotional or mental distress. It is grounded in trauma theory, self-psychology, attachment theory, childhood development, linguistics, neurobiology, and clinical observations.

Other influences on my psychotherapy practice

Apart from my training and professional experience, I am strongly influenced by ethics, human rights, and social justice, as well as older schools of thought like Buddhism, existentialism, and absurdism. I have also studied history, sociology, gender & sexuality studies, industrial relations, politics, and philosophy. I understand how our childhood development and wider socio-political forces can shape our past and present identities, privileges, and struggles.

I embrace diversity regarding gender. I understand that gender is a core part of being human which is deeply personal and not necessarily fixed. I am trans and non-binary friendly, and I acknowledge that there are more than two gender identities. I am a gender-affirming therapist, and I am interested in exploring and supporting with all aspects of gender.

Sexuality is an incredibly personal thing and I offer a safe space to explore all aspects should you wish to do so. I am sex positive and non-judgmental regarding sexuality. I am queer-friendly, kink-friendly, and I work with people who identify as straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, queer, monogamous, and non-monogamous. I also support people who working in the sex industry.

I embrace the cultural diversity of our communities and I have worked therapeutically with people from a wide cultural and linguistic backgrounds. I stand with and pay my respect to the First Nations people of this land. Like many Australians, I have mixed heritage myself, and I am always learning more about cultural diversity, and how racism impacts mental health. I have an ever-expanding understanding of the historical and ongoing processes of colonisation and the complex ways in which these can manifest in individuals and communities.
